On September 22, 2019, Chetan Vyas, the former General Manager of Rai Cement Company, was brutally murdered at his residence within the factory premises in Kericho, Kenya.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects accessed the house through the roof before descending on Vyas, who was sleeping in his bedroom. The incident was captured by a CCTV camera, although the assailants were wearing masks.

Five suspects were arrested in the morning, including 38-year-old Azim Salim, 24-year-old Osman Noor, 38-year-old Mohamed Shahid, 24-year-old Yacoob Wali, and 29-year-old Shabdin Ismail. Ismail is believed to be an ex-Saudi Arabia and Qatar security guard and serves as a loading supervisor at Rai Cement Company.

"The aspect of terror is also being investigated in the murder. The DCI cautions companies who employ foreign-trained personnel, especially in security matters, to always seek their clearance from DCI, which is done through Interpol Coordination," a statement from the DCI read.

Three other suspects were arrested later in the evening in Kipsitet, Kericho County, and detectives recovered a destroyed Samsung phone belonging to the deceased.

Also recovered in one of the suspects' houses was the late Vyas's Airtel SIM card. The trio arrested are 42-year-old Michael Nicholus Mibei, 36-year-old Hilary Cheruiyot Kemboi, and 52-year-old Daniel Ruto.

"The suspects are believed to have destroyed the phone to erase traces of evidence. Several other damaged SIM cards linked to other crimes were also recovered from Mibei's house. Placed in custody and assisting in further investigations," another statement from the DCI read.
