On October 4, 2019, Kenya Airways flight E190 from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam encountered a technical glitch while cruising at an altitude of 38,000 feet, prompting the pilot to return the plane to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The incident, which is the latest in a series of mishaps to taint the airline's image, left passengers in a state of panic. Oxygen masks were deployed, and the cabin crew moved swiftly to calm the situation.
A passenger on the flight recounted the harrowing experience, saying that the crew's swift action helped to minimize the panic among the passengers.
Kenya Airways Corporate Affairs office confirmed the incident, stating that the situation was well-handled and that the airline took all necessary steps to avoid inconveniencing the passengers.
Upon landing at JKIA, the passengers were rebooked on other flights, marking the end of a traumatic experience for them.
