Uhuru Extends Francis Muthaura's Term as KRA Chairman

President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended the term of Francis Muthaura as Chairman of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for three years, effective October 21, 2019.

According to a Gazette Notice dated October 2, 2019, President Kenyatta appointed Muthaura as KRA Chairman for a period of three years, citing section 6 (2) (a) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act.

As part of the appointments, the Acting National Treasury and Planning Cabinet Secretary also picked Mr. Mukesh Shah, Eng. Leonard Ithau, and Mrs Susan Muthuna for a three-year term at the KRA Board, with effect from October 21, 2019. Mrs. Rose Waruhiu and Mr. Paul Muchiri Ichara were also re-appointed to the Board, with Ichara's reappointment taking effect on November 1, 2019.

Muthaura's appointment comes after President Kenyatta revoked the appointment of former Planning PS Edward Sambili.

Muthaura holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations. He is also a holder of Honorary Doctorate Degrees from the Kenyatta University and Kenya Methodist University.

He has served as the Secretary to the Cabinet and a career diplomat, and has also held positions as Chairman of the Lamu Port and Lamu-Southern Sudan-Ethiopia (LAPSSET) Transport Corridor Development Authority and Britam Holdings Limited.
