On October 6, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko threatened to take stern action against his staff members after a man claimed that the bereaved families of the Precious Talent Top School classroom collapse did not receive any money as promised by the Nairobi county government.
Sonko revealed through social media that the CECM education, Chief Officer Finance, and Chief Officer Disaster Management had all confirmed to him that each of the bereaved families had received Sh100,000 in their bank accounts to cater for funeral expenses.
However, the committee formed by Sonko to oversee funeral arrangements denied the allegations, stating that they had raised Sh1.4 million and divided it among the eight families, ensuring they received advice from the bank manager.
The committee member added that some family members had confirmed receiving money from City Hall, contradicting the man's claims that they had not received donations and were forced to fundraise.
Despite all the pledges, only Deputy President William Ruto came through and gave each affected family Sh100,000, according to the man who made the claims.
