On September 23, a relative discovered the lifeless bodies of Judith Wanjiku and her 47-year-old daughter Catherine Nyaguthii in their South B home in Nairobi. Initially, police suspected foul play, but further investigation revealed that Catherine was the one who called the police, claiming she had committed the crime.
According to police, Catherine made the call to the toll-free number 112, saying 'Nimeua. Sasa kujeni muniue' ('I have killed. Now come and kill me'). The audio recording was analyzed, and investigators believe Catherine killed her mother before taking her own life.
Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the crime. They are also analyzing a white tea cup that may have contained poison, which Catherine may have consumed after killing her mother. The results of the cup's contents, paired with toxicological results of food samples taken from Catherine's intestines, are expected to yield clues into the murder.
