Hellen Obiri, the world defending champion, made history by retaining her title in the women's 5000 metres final at the 2019 IAAF Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, on October 5, 2019.
Obiri crossed the line at a record 14:26.7, followed by her compatriot Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi, who won silver with a time of 14:27.4.
Bronze went to Konstanze Klosterhalfen of Germany, who came third with 14.28.43 in the women's 5000 metres final at the Khalifa International stadium in Doha, Qatar.
Obiri's impressive performance marked her second gold in the same event, having won Kenya its first gold in the 2018 African Athletics Championships at Asaba's Stephen Keshi Stadium.
Her victory at the 2019 World Athletics Championships cemented her status as one of Kenya's top athletes, and her record-breaking time will be remembered for years to come.
