Deputy President William Ruto has been at the center of an investigation into an alleged plot to assassinate him, with detectives now closing in on two individuals believed to be behind the authoring of a letter that sparked the probe.

According to sources, the letter was authored at a cyber cafe in Karen, with the individuals attempting to cover their tracks by using the cafe's office.

“A lot has been retrieved from that office. The officers are presently pursuing two individuals, who are suspected to have been behind the fake letter to cause a scare,” said an official.

The letter, which has been under investigation, claims that a Cabinet Secretary was summoned by Interior PS Karanja Kibicho to attend a meeting at La Mada hotel, where the agenda included shoring up support for the President in Mt Kenya, discussing a proposed referendum, and going on the offensive against DP Ruto.

However, the Cabinet Secretary seems to be distancing himself from the plot, maintaining that he has never involved himself in politics.

“As a diligent and loyal public servant, I write to you to request to be exempted from these meetings. I do so because the PS said he had express instructions from you to have us take part and implement decisions arrived at,” reads the letter in part.
