Published on October 6, 2019, a Kenya Forest Service officer was shot with an arrow while on patrol in Maasai Mau Forest, sparking tension in the area.

Narok County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti confirmed the incident, stating that the officer was attacked around 6pm while on patrol with colleagues.

The officer was rushed to Narok Referral Hospital for treatment and is currently recuperating.

Following the incident, the number of security personnel in the area was increased, with the administrator revealing that the search for the attacker had begun.

The attack comes amid rising tensions in the area, with residents complaining of police harassment and destruction of property in the days leading up to the incident.

Area leaders, including Sagamian MCA Wesley Koech, have spoken out against the government's decision to block roads leading to the affected area, citing the need to respect the 60-day notice period for evictions.

Residents, who are still working on their farms ahead of the evictions, have expressed concern over the closure of roads, which they claim is hampering their movement and access to basic commodities.
