Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has lost his first wife, Adelaide Shikanga, who passed away on Saturday morning at their home in Malinya, Kakamega.

According to Khalwale, Adelaide had been battling cancer for 39 years, since her first diagnosis in 2003. Despite undergoing six chemotherapy sessions at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, she developed pulmonary hypertension on Friday and collapsed while going to the bathroom.

‘Adelaide is my wife of 39 years. From 2003 when she was first diagnosed to be suffering from cancer, we as a family refused to be intimidated by the possibility of death. We have remained unbowed but unfortunately this morning, she has died,’ Khalwale said in a statement.

Adelaide worked as a secretary at the Department of Education at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology until her death. She leaves behind two sons and one daughter, and Khalwale is now left with one wife, Josephine.

Deputy President William Ruto and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula have sent messages of condolence to the family of the late Adelaide Shikanga.
