On Saturday, October 5, 2019, in Doha, the United States secured 4x100m relay gold in a record-breaking time of 37.10 seconds, marking a historic victory for the team.
Justin Gatlin, the 2017 100m world champion, finally achieved one of his long-held goals at the age of 37, leading the all-star American quartet to their eighth world title.
"We are a brotherhood," Gatlin said, reflecting on the team's unity and determination. "We had a talk this morning and we said we are going to go out there and do this. I wanted it especially hard as I have never won a relay title."
Team member Michael Rodgers revealed that their motivation was to win the title for Gatlin, who had never achieved this feat before.
Britain took silver, with Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake delivering a superb anchor leg to overtake Japan's Abdul Hakim Sani Brown. Both Britain and Japan set new European and Asian records with times of 37.36sec and 37.43sec respectively.
