Kenya Railways has made a U-turn on its decision to ban food and beverages on its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) trains, operating between Nairobi and Mombasa.

Initially, the agency had prohibited passengers from bringing their own food and drinks on board, warning that items would be confiscated at security checkpoints.

However, following a public outcry, the company has announced that it will negotiate with its service providers, allowing passengers to bring food and drinks from outside during this period.

Although the ban on alcoholic drinks remains in force, passengers can now purchase food and beverages from vendors inside the coaches, operated by NAS Airport Services, a local subsidiary of Servair.

Kenya Railways' decision to reverse its ban comes after widespread criticism from Kenyans, who deemed the initial announcement as an impromptu and poorly thought-out decision.
