Roysambu Residents Enjoy Free Beer After Truck Overturns ¶
Christmas came early for residents of Roysambu in Nairobi after a truck carrying crates of Balozi beer overturned on Thika Road on October 5, 2019.
According to eyewitnesses, scores of residents were seen scrambling for beer bottles as motorists slowed down to catch a glimpse of the chaos.
As police fired teargas in the air to disperse the crowd, looters were all smiles, with some even selling the loot to passing motorists.
One Twitter user, Ciutu, joked about a man selling the loot, saying, “Baridi ama warm? And don’t hic drive and drink.”
Another Twitter user, Stephen Thande, said, “Roysambu is lit! If people had these kind of motivation in life Kenya ingekua Mbali.”
Similar incidents have occurred in the past, with a similar incident occurring in Kagio town, Kirinyaga County, in December last year.
A truck ferrying alcoholic drinks overturned less than a kilometre to its destination, with looters scrambling for bottles and women singing and dancing in celebration.
