Kenya Railways has backtracked on a directive that banned passengers from bringing food and drinks onto its standard gauge railway stations and Madaraka Express trains.

According to a statement on Twitter, the agency has suspended the directive until further notice to allow for negotiations with service providers to improve customer experience.

"Kenya Railways wishes to inform our esteemed customers that a decision has been undertaken to suspend the directive until further notice to allow for conclusion of the negotiations," the statement read.

However, the ban on alcoholic drinks remains in place.

Passengers had taken to social media to express their discontent with the initial directive, with some suggesting that the agency should focus on providing quality services before imposing such rules.
