June 8, 2019, marked a crucial day for the United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) Tigers and Flames as they took on various opponents in the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League at Nyayo Gymnasium.
However, their focus shifted to their upcoming match against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) at Makande Hall in Mombasa, where they will face an uphill task to secure points and move up the standings.
USIU-A coach Cliff Owuor expressed optimism about his team's chances, stating, 'We are optimistic even though we know that they (KPA) will not make it easy for us. We have prepared well and the players are determined to make the matches count, because we must secure points to move up the standings and escape relegation.'
With key players Daisy Lugendo, Lindsey Nandako, and Sharlette Shibweche returning from injury, the Flames are expected to be stronger in their match against KPA. Coach Owuor noted, 'The ladies (Flames) are stronger now because three of our key players have returned from injury to bolster the playing unit.'
USIU-A's determination to secure points and avoid relegation is evident, and they will have to rely on their team cohesion and the return of key players to challenge KPA.
