On October 5, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at Kapset market centre in Bomet county, Kenya, where a local man, Samuel Towett, died after choking on a piece of raw liver.
According to a report by officers at Kaptebengwet Police Station, Towett had ordered a mixture of meat, liver, and tripes from a local butcher, Simon Koech. While Koech was preparing the order, Towett took a piece of the raw liver and attempted to swallow it, but unfortunately, he was unable to do so.
Residents attempted to save his life through first aid, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Towett was then rushed to Itare Forest Department Dispensary, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police officers later visited the dispensary and found that the body had been released to relatives, who took it to Kapkatet Hospital Mortuary for preservation.
