On October 2, 2019, Hellen Obiri, the world 5,000m champion, competed in the Women's 5000m heats at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar, alongside USA's Karissa Schweizer.
Obiri, who failed to impress at her Worlds 10,000m debut, is returning to the track tonight to restore her authority as the queen of 5,000m.
At the 10,000m final, Obiri looked beaten but returned to the 5,000m heats with a resounding performance, posting the fastest qualifying time of 14:52.13 on Wednesday.
Obiri, who became the first woman to win outdoors, indoors, and cross-country world individual titles at the senior level in March this year, will be keen to close the season with another victory.
She has the fastest time so far this season, 14:20.36, set in the IAAF Diamond League meeting in London.
Obiri will have the company of her fellow countrywomen Margaret Chelimo and Lilian Kasait in the final.
Chelimo, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, has the best time of 14:31.69 and will be out to improve on her last performance.
Chelimo said, 'We will be ready for either fast or slow final. We have prepared the strategy to hopefully win medals for Kenya.'
Kasait, 22, comes into the final with an impressive resume, having dominated the junior levels and won gold at the African Games last month in Rabat, Morocco.
Other finalists to be worried about include American Karissa Schweizer, Ethiopia's Hawi Feysa, and Britain's Eilish McColgan.
