Deputy President William Ruto's visit to Meru County on October 4, 2019, was a significant event that saw him issue a stern warning to politicians working with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The warning was issued during a harambee he presided over at Meru National Polytechnic.
According to Nation, Ruto's warning was a clear indication of his frustration with the trend of politicians working with Odinga to fight against development. He accused these politicians of being part of Odinga's agenda, which many have alleged are part of his 2022 campaigns.
"Kenya cannot be run by tales but development," Ruto said. "I have come to Meru several times and I will keep coming until I streamline the issues affecting this county. As Jubilee leaders, we were elected on the promise of delivering development and all of us must do that. The rest have nothing much to do but to make noise," he added.
Notably, Ruto's visit to Meru was marked by a snub from senior government officials and county leadership. Only a junior official was present to receive him, while Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his deputy Titus Ntuchiu were absent. The event was also attended by nominated MP Halima Mucheke, who was hosting a homecoming party at Meru Polytechnic grounds.
