Published on October 5, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto has called on leaders to shift their focus from competitive politics to development and issue-based leadership.

Speaking during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Wamba Catholic Church Hospital in Samburu East, Samburu County, Dr. Ruto emphasized that Kenya has moved beyond competitive politics informed by ethnicity, hate, and division.

“Compete amongst yourselves on the basis of transforming the lives of Kenyans,” Dr. Ruto said, urging leaders to prioritize development agendas that improve the lives of citizens.

He noted that the Jubilee administration is focused on implementing development projects that have a positive impact on Kenyans, and that the competitive politics era ended in 2017.

Other leaders present at the event included MPs Jackson Lekumontare, Rigathi Gachagua, and Samburu Senator Lelegwe Ltumbesi, as well as former Samburu West MP Lati Lelelit.

Mr. Gachagua called on the government to support mission hospitals across the country to achieve Universal Health Coverage, a key pillar of the Big Four Agenda.

Dr. Ruto also announced plans to equip Wamba Catholic Church Hospital to improve healthcare in the region.
