On October 5, 2019, a birthday message sent to Diamond Platnumz sparked controversy, with the message reading 'dume suruali', a Swahili phrase translating to 'scrub' or 'good for nothing'.

However, Zari Hassan, the sender of the message, has since come out to deny sending the insult, attributing her busy schedule to the alleged mishap.

"That was some edited shit, the Internet will do anything these days. I was still busy partying my birth month away, I had no time to wish others. Sorry but not sorry," Zari said in a statement.
