Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has lost his first wife, Adelaide, who died on Saturday at their Malinya home in Kakamega.
Adelaide, a 56-year-old mother of four, had been battling cancer for 16 years, having been first diagnosed in 2003.
According to Dr. Khalwale, his wife had developed cancer of the blood (multiple myeloma) this year and had undergone standard treatment, including chemotherapy, which had been successful in curing the cancer.
However, on Thursday, Adelaide developed pulmonary hypertension and despite medication, she stopped breathing two days later.
Dr. Khalwale revealed that his wife had completed the course of treatment and had been confirmed to be cancer-free just this week.
Deputy President William Ruto and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula have sent messages of condolence to the family, describing Adelaide as a pillar in Dr. Khalwale's life.
Dr. Khalwale is now left with one wife, Josephine.
