On October 5, 2019, Facebook, in partnership with Teleperformance, announced the opening of its first Small Business Group (SBG) Operations Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.
The centre will provide outsourced support to all English-speaking advertisers across Sub-Saharan Africa, helping them to grow their businesses, organizations, and communities through social media.
Through its Advocacy, Community & Education (ACE) programme, the centre will offer online and face-to-face trainings to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, focusing on how to leverage mobile and social media to build brand awareness, increase sales, and connect with customers.
Additionally, the centre will serve as a networking opportunity for SMEs to join online Facebook Groups and learn from Community Managers, share knowledge, and expertise.
Facebook's Marketing Expert sales programs will also support businesses in 34 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, providing SMEs with consultative digital marketing advice from local expert agents.
Commenting on the centre's opening, Adaora Ikenze, Head of Public Policy, Anglophone West Africa, said: “With over 90 million businesses globally using Facebook to find new customers, hire employees, and engage with their communities, digital skills and harnessing those skills are now evermore important.”
The centre, managed and operated by Facebook's partner, Teleperformance, has created full-time jobs for over 35 people and began operating from mid-July.
