On Saturday, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa confirmed that Robert Muthomi had asked to leave his post as FKF Chief Executive Officer.

Mwendwa made the announcement at the Federation's Annual General meeting at Safari Park hotel in Nairobi, where he also revealed that Barry Otieno would be taking up the position.

According to Mwendwa, he had spoken to Muthomi a few weeks ago, and Muthomi had asked to leave. Mwendwa also confirmed that Muthomi had asked him to step down, and that the decision had been accepted.

Robert Muthomi had been serving as FKF CEO since 2016, when Mwendwa was elected president. However, he was forced to step down earlier this year to allow for investigations into allegations that he had abused his office.

The allegations centered around Muthomi's role in facilitating the travel of Sofapaka striker John Avire and his agent to Egypt to seek a professional deal, which was seen as irregular.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with Mwendwa stating that they expect to close the case in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Mwendwa has confirmed that he will be seeking re-election for the presidency during the polls set for December this year, with Doris Mwendwa as his running mate.
