On 5 October 2019, a dramatic robbery took place at a hotel in Eastleigh, where a gang of armed men stormed in and stole Ksh 6 million in dollars.
According to reports, the victims, Mohammed Hassan and Abdullahi Yusuf, were ordered to surrender all their money, which they did, but raised the alarm shortly after the gangsters left.
Police who were on patrol responded swiftly and found that the gangsters were their colleagues from Kayole police station, including CPL Wilson Cheruiyot, PC Daniel Kipkorir, and PC Alex Kandie, as well as a Cameroonian national, Esome Jean Babtist.
Part of the stolen cash, amounting to Ksh 3.5 million, was recovered from the rogue officers, along with a pocket phone.
Two other suspects managed to escape during the 1:30 AM incident, taking away 2.5 million that was part of the loot.
A manhunt has been launched for the suspects, with Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) operatives joining the search.
The rogue cops are in lawful police custody at Pangani police station and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
