On Saturday morning, a dramatic incident unfolded in Nairobi's Eastleigh area, where three police officers were arrested for robbing two businessmen of Sh6 million.

According to reports, the officers, who were armed with pistols, raided a lodging along Second Street and ordered the businessmen to surrender the cash they had. The businessmen, who had booked the lodging, obeyed the orders and surrendered the 60,000 US dollars they had.

However, the officers' plan was foiled when the businessmen raised alarm and asked for help. Police who were patrolling in the area responded and intercepted four of the men, only to discover that they were fellow officers attached to Kayole Police Division.

Two other officers managed to escape on foot, but one of them is known to be a police officer attached to the same station. The suspects are being detained at the Pangani Police Station ahead of their arrangement on Monday, Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo said.

It is the latest incident in which police officers are involved in crime instead of fighting crime. In a separate incident last Wednesday, three police officers were arrested along Nairobi-Garissa highway while transporting 245 kilos of bhang.

Police authorities say all officers involved in crime will be punished just like any other suspect.
