Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale is in mourning following the death of his first wife Adelaide, who succumbed to pulmonary hypertension at her village home in Malinya, Ikolomani constituency.
According to Khalwale, Adelaide took her last breath on Saturday, October 5, 2019, after developing the condition about two days prior.
Adelaide was a staff member at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and had been married to Khalwale for 39 years.
"For avoidance of doubt I wish to announce to members of my extended family, friends and family the passing on of my wife Adelaide. Adelaide is my wife of 39 years," Khalwale told journalists at his Ikolomani home.
The body of Adelaide has been taken to St. Elizabeth's Mukumu Hospital pending burial arrangements.
Bungoma senator Moses Wetang'ula condoled with Khalwale's family over the loss, saying, "My condolences to @BoniKhalwale and his family on the loss of his wife Adelaide. May God comfort you in this difficult time."
