Martha Karua, a former Kenyan MP, has taken the Kenyan government to the East African Court of Justice in Arusha, Tanzania, over the dismissal of her election case against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi.

According to a report by NTV, Karua claims that the court unfairly dismissed her case, violating the East African Community's treaty on human rights and democracy.

"The government of Kenya has breached the East African Community treaty, particularly articles 6 and 7, which deal with the rule of law, democracy, and human rights," Karua said in a statement.

She further alleged that the court had failed to uphold the principles of justice and fairness in her case, which was dismissed in December 2018 by a three-judge panel.

NTV reported that Karua had claimed that the governor had known about the case's outcome before the court's decision was made.

However, the court had ruled that Karua had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support her claims against the governor.

Karua's case was initially dismissed by the High Court in Kerugoya in June 2018, prompting her to take the matter to the East African Court of Justice.

"The government and the court have committed grave injustices in this case," Karua said in a statement.
