October 5, 2019, marked the beginning of a tumultuous period for Inua Mama officials in Mombasa, as allegations of embezzlement and mismanagement surfaced.
The interim officials, tasked with formulating programs to uplift economically women allied to Inua Mama MPs supporting William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, were accused of pursuing personal interests and swindling gullible women.
Claims of sexual affairs within the group also emerged, further fueling the controversy.
"The intrusion of the Inua Mama noble idea by cartels purporting to have the ear of the deputy president and conning poor women of hard-earned money has tainted the vision of what the initiative was supposed to achieve. This is very unfortunate," said a woman.
The women are also unhappy that the cartels are promoting tribalism within the local outfit, making it appear as though the Inua Mama Mombasa chapter is a Rift Valley affair.
