On a sunny day in 2016, Jackline Migide, a Gender Officer in Nairobi, created a Facebook group called 'Glam Life' with a simple goal in mind: to help women understand the art of make-up and build their confidence levels.
At the time, Jackline was fascinated by the world of beauty and fashion, having grown up watching her mother apply make-up and marveling at the flawless skin and stunning eye-shadow of the women in fashion magazines.
However, Jackline's own journey to self-discovery was not without its challenges. She had struggled with low self-esteem and had even contemplated wearing a buibui to cover herself up. But with the help of a close friend and the resolution of a personal issue, Jackline was able to turn her life around and develop a newfound confidence.
It was this experience that inspired Jackline to create 'Glam Life', a closed forum where women could interact, share ideas, and learn from each other. The group quickly gained popularity, with over 75,000 members today, and has become a go-to platform for women seeking advice on make-up, fashion, and teeth.
From beach wedding attire to bridal make-up, the group's members are always eager to share their expertise and help each other. Jackline recalls receiving countless messages from shy women who were excited to learn how to apply their make-up, thanks to the tutorials on the group.
As a make-up artist herself, Jackline emphasizes the importance of knowing one's skin type and using products from reputable companies. She also advises women not to try to fix what's not broken and to identify what works for them and stick to it.
With 'Glam Life', Jackline has created a safe space for women to build their confidence levels and learn from each other. As she puts it, 'When you look good, you feel good about yourself, and you're ready to conquer the world... or your little corner of it.'
