On October 5, 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded in Bondo town, where a middle-aged woman of Tanzanian origin was arrested for allegedly trying to sell her two children.
The woman, identified as Zaidi Hassan, was found in a public area, where she had announced that she was selling the two children, aged one and four years, for Sh60,000 and Sh55,000 respectively.
According to Juma Abuko, the chairman of Bondo Sub County community policing committee, the woman's actions attracted the attention of members of the public, who became curious and wanted to know why she was selling her children.
After being interrogated by the public, Ms. Hassan revealed that she had four children and had already sold two others in Kisumu.
The police were called, and Ms. Hassan was arrested along with the two children. The children have been taken to safe custody by the area children's department, while Ms. Hassan will undergo a psychiatric examination as investigations into the matter begin.
