On Friday night, a devastating five-alarm fire ravaged the top floor of a 150-unit apartment building in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, leaving a trail of destruction and injuring 10 people.
According to Jason Powell, a Fire Department spokesman, the fire became a five-alarm blaze at 9:46 p.m., prompting a massive response from 46 fire units and 210 firefighters.
Despite the severity of the fire, none of the injuries were life-threatening, with 9 of the 10 people injured being firefighters, including one who was seriously injured.
The fire was reported at 8:15 p.m. at 1555 Grand Concourse, and it took firefighters over three hours to bring the blaze under control.
Emergency responders were forced to attack the fire using ladders, with flames and plumes of black smoke billowing from the building's rooftop.
As of midnight, firefighters were still working to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire was completely out.
