On Friday, police in Ruiru arrested Stephen Ndoro, the husband of Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago's sister, Jane Murugi, in connection with her death.

Murugi, a 41-year-old senior nurse stationed in Machakos, was found dead inside a toilet at her home in Membley Estate, Ruiru, on Friday morning.

Initial reports suggested that Murugi may have committed suicide by hanging, but police suspect foul play, citing that she was found seated on the toilet bowl.

According to Ruiru OCPD Phineas Mutwiri, Ndoro was arrested as part of the investigation into Murugi's death.

"We have arrested the husband as we investigate how the deceased met her death. Right now we are not taking chances; we cannot rule out the possibility of murder," Mutwiri told Daily Nation on October 5, 2019.

MP Kago informed Daily Nation that they were told about Murugi's death by her house help, who reported an altercation between Murugi and her husband the previous night.

"From the look of things and what we found in the bedroom, we suspect that our sister was murdered, and not suicide as police say. There is more than meets the eye," MP Kago added.
