13 Killed in Nairobi-Bound Bus Crash

On October 5, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred at Awasi, Kisumu County, claiming the lives of 13 people.

The accident involved a Nairobi-bound Eldoret Express bus, which was traveling from Kisumu to Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway.

According to Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu, the driver attempted to overtake a cane tractor but ended up in a head-on collision with an approaching trailer at Pala area.

Twelve adults and one child lost their lives in the accident, with the 13 passengers dying instantly.

Thirty-five others sustained injuries and were taken to various hospitals for treatment.

The bus had started its journey in Siaya and picked up more passengers in Kisumu before heading to the capital.

The bodies of the deceased passengers were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
