On September 13th, 2019, the body of Tob Cohen, a 71-year-old Dutch businessman, was discovered in an underground water tank at his home in Nairobi's Kitisuru estate.
According to the results of a postmortem examination, Cohen succumbed to severe head trauma inflicted by a blunt object, which was released on Friday, October 4th, 2019, by Citizen Digital.
"The body was of a male adult of a Caucasian race who had been preserved by refrigeration and was decomposing," the report stated, adding that some parts of his body were found to be decomposed with maggot infestation, while his eyes had been blindfolded, hands and feet bound with a rope at the neck.
Further examination revealed that both hands were broken with overlaying bruises, and his upper lip was found to be torn on the inside. The report, compiled by five pathologists, also noted multiple injuries on the ribs and bruises on the diaphragm.
Cohen had bruises on the right side of the face, a lacerated left earlobe, and additional bruises on the chest, arms, lower limbs, and the right foot.
Pathologists used DNA samples from Cohen's finger and toenails, as well as twigs and vegetation found embedded in his body, for the autopsy examination.
Cohen, who had lived in Kenya for 32 years, went missing on July 19th, 2019, before his body was discovered. His estranged wife, Sarah Wairimu, was charged with his murder on Thursday and is seeking to be released on bail after pleading not guilty.
