On Friday, Sarah Wairimu Cohen's in-laws appeared in court to oppose her bail request, arguing that she has no fixed abode and poses a risk to witnesses.
Through her lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, Gabrielle and Bernard Cohen claimed that their sister-in-law is better off in Lang'ata Women's Prison, where she has been held for 38 days.
Ms. Wairimu's lawyer, Philip Murgor, dismissed the claims, accusing the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of colluding with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to defraud her of her matrimonial property.
The court was told that the DCI has the keys to Ms. Wairimu's palatial home in Kitisuru, and that she would likely stay with friends if granted bail.
High Court Judge Stella Mutuku reserved her ruling until next Friday, leaving Ms. Wairimu in custody for now.
