On October 21, Mombasa will host the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Mama Ngina Waterfront, just a few meters away from the scene of the Likoni ferry tragedy.

However, the celebrations may not take place as planned due to the recent tragedy that occurred on September 29, when Mariam Kigenda, 35, and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu were swept away by the ocean.

According to reports, the two women were inside a Toyota Isis car that had been left on the ferry and was swept away by the ocean.

MBunge Aisha Jumwa has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to cancel the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa until the bodies of the victims are retrieved.

"I urge the President to cancel the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa until the bodies of the victims are retrieved," Jumwa said in a tweet on October 3.

She also called on the Kenya Navy to take over the operation to retrieve the bodies, saying it would be better for them to handle the operation due to the sensitive nature of the task.

"It would be better for the Navy to take over the operation to retrieve the bodies, as it is a sensitive task that requires expertise and care," Jumwa said.
