Moi University is on the brink of a lecturers' strike following a directive to merge some courses and departments.
The move comes just a week after the university, which is struggling with a Sh2.7 billion deficit, scrapped 30 departments as part of a major reorganization.
According to sources, the lecturers have vowed to join their counterparts in 15 faculties and schools in a demonstration aimed at pressuring the administration to reverse the decision.
However, the administration remains unmoved, with Vice Chancellor Prof Isaac Kosgey bluntly stating that the merger will not be reversed, as it is expected to pave the way for efficiency at the institution.
