On October 4, 2019, a devastating building collapse occurred at Butali market in Kakamega, Kenya, claiming one life and leaving many others trapped under the rubble.

According to eyewitnesses, the two-storey building was still under construction when it suddenly collapsed in the mid-morning hours of Thursday.

Rescue efforts are underway, with villagers, Kenya Red Cross workers, and personnel from the county's fire department working tirelessly to save lives at the site.

Wilbroda Sindani, a local resident, reported that a woman who sells food to workers at the construction site has been making phone calls claiming she is trapped in the rubble.
