October 4, 2019, marked the end of an era for Citizen TV as long-time news anchor Hussein Mohamed bid farewell to the Royal Media Services-owned station.
After a decade of serving the Maalim Juma Road-based station, Mohamed is set to join the Qatar-based Al Jazeera, a move that has left his colleagues at Citizen TV surprised.
According to sources, Mohamed's decision to leave was not communicated to senior editors, leaving them caught off-guard by the news.
Having joined Citizen TV in 2008, Mohamed has grown professionally through the ranks, hosting the popular Newsnight show where politicians and other personalities discussed matters affecting the country.
Despite his low profile, Mohamed has maintained a strong presence on the TV screen, and his departure has left a void in the station.
Little is known about Mohamed beyond his professional life, but it is revealed that he is married to his wife Malyun, whom he wed in a traditional Islamic ceremony at the Masjid Nur in South C in 2014.
Al Jazeera has a notable presence of Kenyans in its ranks, including Catherine Wambua-Soi, who joined the station after leaving KTN in 2008 and now serves as the East and Central Africa producer.
