As of September 2019, a staggering 1033 people had lost their lives in road accidents in Kenya, with 2640 vehicles involved in accidents during the same period.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director General, Francis Meja, has stated that measures are being put in place to address the crisis, including the deregistration of PSV operators and revocation of licenses of offending drivers.
Meja emphasized the need for stringent measures to maintain sanity on the roads, citing private vehicles as the major contributors of accidents in Kenya, followed by heavy-duty vehicles, motorcycles, and public service vehicles.
