On October 3, 2019, a heated debate erupted on social media after a passenger at the Mombasa SGR terminus stripped to protest against a Kenya Railways directive banning all foodstuffs and drinks on trains.
The directive, which was met with anger from netizens, stated that all passengers would be searched and food items confiscated at all checkpoints at the termini and stations.
A video making rounds on social media showed the woman, who was half-naked, protesting against the order to leave food she was carrying for her year-old baby.

The Kenya Railways' notice was posted on the corporation's social media accounts, sparking claims that it was seeking to profiteer.
