On September 8, 2019, Rafael Nadal captured his 19th Grand Slam title at the US Open, defeating Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling five-set match.

However, the 19-time Grand Slam champion has been dealing with a wrist injury that has forced him to withdraw from the upcoming Shanghai Masters.

Nadal, who is the world's number two tennis player, cited the injury as the reason for his withdrawal in a statement released on Friday.

"As you all probably know, I had an inflammation on my left wrist during the Laver Cup and I haven't had the time to recover and practise to be ready for this amazing event," Nadal said.

He added that he hopes to be back in Shanghai for the 2020 tournament.

The Shanghai Masters tournament director, Michael Luevano, expressed disappointment at Nadal's withdrawal, stating that the tournament would miss having the tennis star in attendance.

On a personal note, Luevano also wished Nadal and his fiancée, Maria Francisca, all the best for their upcoming wedding on October 19.
