On Friday, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced the dismissal of 36 teachers due to professional misconduct. This move comes after a thorough investigation into the cases of the teachers, which were conducted from mid-last year to the end of the year.

According to a statement by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, the teachers were discharged over allegations of professional misconduct, including having sexual relationships with students, desertion of duty, insubordination, and negligence.

Ms. Macharia further stated that the names of the teachers have been removed from the TSC register, and they will not be permitted to teach in any learning institution across the country for the rest of their lives.

"It is notified for general information that pursuant to Sections 30 (4) and (5), 23 (2) of the Act: Where the name of a teacher is removed from the register, such a person shall not be reinstated except by direction of the commission," the statement read in part.

With this latest dismissal, the total number of teachers deregistered in 2019 has now reached 151.
