13 People Killed in Grisly Accident in Kisumu, Kenya

On October 3, 2019, a devastating accident occurred in Awasi, Kisumu County, resulting in the loss of 13 lives.

The accident involved a bus operated by Eldoret Express, which collided head-on with a lorry after attempting to overtake a tractor.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was traveling from Kisumu to Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi highway when the accident occurred.

Police Commander Benson Maweu confirmed that 13 bodies were recovered from the scene of the accident.

"The bus was traveling from Kisumu to Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi highway," Maweu said.

He added that the driver of the bus attempted to overtake the tractor and collided with the lorry.

Twelve passengers and the driver of the lorry were killed in the accident.

The bodies of the victims were taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital morgue.
