Kenyan distance runners Faith Chepng'etich Kipyegon and Winnie Chebet made a strong start to the Doha World Championships on Thursday, October 4, 2019, by qualifying for the women's 1500m final.

Defending champion Chepng'etich finished fourth in the first semi-final, which was won by Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands. Hassan's coach, Alberto Salazar, had been banned from the sport just two days earlier due to doping allegations.
