Kenyan distance runners Faith Chepng'etich Kipyegon and Winnie Chebet made a strong start to the Doha World Championships on Thursday, October 4, 2019, by qualifying for the women's 1500m final.
Defending champion Chepng'etich finished fourth in the first semi-final, which was won by Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands. Hassan's coach, Alberto Salazar, had been banned from the sport just two days earlier due to doping allegations.
Chebet also secured a spot in the final, finishing fifth in Heat 2, which was won by American Jenny Simpson in 4:00.99.
With their qualification secured, Chepng'etich and Chebet will now focus on Saturday's final, which is set to start at 8:55pm EAT.
