On October 4, 2019, the National Assembly approved the nomination of Tiya Galgalo to the National Lands Commission, a move that was initially met with resistance from President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.
However, behind the scenes, a fierce battle was unfolding between the Tangatanga and Kieleweke wings of Jubilee, with Raila Odinga's ODM brigade playing a crucial role in Galgalo's nomination.
According to sources, Raila rallied his ODM members during a Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall to ensure Galgalo's nomination was reversed after it had been rejected by the Lands Committee on tax compliance grounds.
June Mohammed, the National Assembly Minority Whip, was tasked with whipping members to amend the report to include Galgalo, a move that was opposed by the Tangatanga wing.
Despite the opposition, the Raila team managed to garner 114 votes against 70 during the division to amend the report tabled by committee Chairperson Rachael Nyamai.
Majority of those who opposed the nomination included Kimani Ichung'wa, Gideon Keter, Soipan Tuya, Alice Wahome, William Cheptumo, Caleb Kositany, Ndindi Nyoro, David ole Sankok, Robert Pukose, David Gikaria, Gladys Boss Shollei, Rehema Jaldesa, Nelson Koech, Jane Kihara, Dan Wanyama, Cornelly Serem, Bernard Shinali, John Waluke, and Joseph Limo.
Majority Leader Aden Duale and Joyce Korir abstained from voting.
