At least 13 people lost their lives in a devastating road accident that occurred in the early hours of October 4, 2019, at Pala area near Awasi, Kenya.

The accident involved an Eldoret Express bus from Kisumu and a truck, resulting in the deaths of 11 passengers and both drivers.

Nyanza Regional Commissioner James Kianda confirmed the incident, stating that the accident occurred shortly before midnight.

According to Kianda, the bus was traveling from Kisumu towards Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway when the driver attempted to overtake a cane tractor, resulting in a head-on collision with the trailer.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident, and the injured have been admitted to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga referral Hospital in Kisumu.

Regional Commissioner Kianda urged road users to exercise caution, especially at night, and emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent such accidents.

Passengers who sustained serious injuries were rushed to different hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to Ahero sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
