On Thursday night, a devastating bus crash occurred at Pala, about 3km from Awasi trading center in Kisumu County, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 people and injuring several others.
According to eyewitnesses, the crash happened at around 11:30pm. By 2:30am on Friday, Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu confirmed that at least 13 bodies had been counted.
Mr. Maweu explained that the bus, traveling from Kisumu to Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway, attempted to overtake a cane tractor and collided head-on with a trailer.
Of the 13 people who lost their lives, 12 were passengers on the bus, including a child, while the other fatality was the truck driver. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, and survivors are receiving treatment at the facility.
