On October 4, 2019, a tragic shooting occurred in downtown Vancouver, Wash., at the Smith Tower Apartments, a senior living facility.

According to authorities, an 80-year-old man, identified as Robert E. Breck, opened fire in the lobby of the building, killing one man and injuring two women.

Mr. Breck then retreated to his apartment, refusing to come out, and was taken into custody after a two-hour standoff with police.

He was booked into Clark County Jail on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The victims were taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The mayor of Vancouver, Anne McEnerny-Ogle, expressed her condolences to the victims and their families on Twitter.

Television footage showed a drone flying near the building, and several nearby streets were closed as police vehicles gathered outside.
