Published on October 4, 2019, a recall of Sure lubricated condoms has sent shockwaves across Kenya, with consumers advised to check their products for potential defects.
Thailand-based manufacturer Innolatex, through its distributor Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa), has declared the Sure brand of lubricated condoms unsafe due to quality concerns.
According to a letter from Kemsa's quality assurance manager Dr. John Aduda, the affected batches of condoms have batch numbers 17DN754 and 17DN052 and are set to expire between December 2021 and December 2022.
Consumers are advised to check the brand and date at the bottom of the outer packing and the foil wrapping to see if they are in possession of these potentially defective condoms.
The recall was prompted by inconclusive leakage tests done on condoms during the manufacturing process and by independent laboratories.
