On the night of October 4, 2019, a devastating crash occurred in Pala, western Kenya, claiming the lives of at least 13 people and leaving several others injured.
The accident involved an Eldoret Express bus traveling from Kisumu towards Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway. According to eyewitnesses, the bus driver attempted to overtake a cane tractor, resulting in a head-on collision with a truck.
Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu confirmed the accident, stating that at least 13 bodies had been counted by 2:30am on Friday.
Regional police boss Vincent Makokha revealed that 12 of the deceased were passengers on the bus, including a child, while the other fatality was the truck driver.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, while survivors received treatment at the same facility.
The bus was towed to Awasi police station for further investigation.
